Who is your competition?

In business, we all have a love/hate relationship with our competition. Sure, we recognise that competition is good for the development of new products and services and that competition makes us stronger as we seek to better ourselves to outdo our competition.

How do you rate your accountability?

It’s becoming increasingly evident that we live in an unaccountable society. When political and business leaders including State Presidents avoid holding themselves accountable for their words and actions, there is little hope of getting accountability from anyone else.

Do your clothes still fit you?

One of the frustrations of parents with young children is that they grow out of their clothes almost too fast for comfort. To extend the length of time a child can wear a particular item of clothing, smart parents buy clothes which are just a little too big for their child, giving them just that little bit more time for the child to at least grow into the clothes before they grow out of them!

What did 9/11 teach the business world?

Sunday, 11 September 2016, marked the 15th anniversary of the day on which two hijacked airliners were flown by religious radicals into the Twin Towers in New York. That day changed America for ever and, for that matter, changed the world for ever.

How much time have you got?

As our professional and personal lives become more complex and the speed at which things happen increases, authors and consultants have made fortunes out of time management, teaching people how to better manage their time.

Are you a human doing or a human being?

We have become so conditioned, so used to thinking in a way that says, “Do this and you will be able to …”. This gives us the impression that it is by doing something that we will achieve something. Multimillion dollar training empires have been built on this philosophy.

When will we connect the dots?

For the past 20 or so years, South Africans have walked a painful but necessary road to shift from an exclusive society which favoured a minority of people and sidelined the majority to a more inclusive society which made a place for all.
